L&T Share Price Surge: Why Shares Rose Over 6% After Q2 Results

-

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) shares rose over 6% in early trading on October 28, 2026, after the company announced its September-quarter results a day earlier. The rally followed a 32.5% increase in consolidated net profit and a record quarterly order inflow.

The numbers explain why the results attracted attention. However, the difference between strong earnings and a sustainably rising share price is worth understanding.

L&T reported consolidated net profit of ₹5,202.10 crore for Q2 FY27, compared with ₹3,926.09 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue from operations increased to ₹78,750 crore from ₹67,984 crore, representing growth of approximately 16%.

These figures show that L&T delivered higher revenue and profit during the quarter. Yet the earnings announcement contained another important number: the value of new orders secured during the period.

L&T received orders worth ₹1,47,665 crore in Q2 FY27, an increase of 28% year-on-year. Its consolidated order book reached ₹8,53,514 crore as of September 30, 2026. International orders accounted for ₹92,375 crore, or 63% of quarterly order inflows.

For an engineering and construction company, these figures matter because projects are often executed over time. A large order book provides visibility into potential future work, although it does not guarantee when revenue will be recognised or how profitable those projects will be.

International business also played a significant role in the quarter’s new orders. This makes execution, project costs and developments in the regions where L&T operates important factors to watch.

The share-price reaction was notable. According to Business Standard, L&T touched ₹3,892 during intraday trading on October 28, up approximately 6% from its previous close of ₹3,670. This was an intraday high, not the closing price.

Reuters reported that the results helped ease concerns about the company’s ability to execute projects amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. The report also noted that logistical challenges continued to affect some projects in the region.

That distinction matters. Investors were responding to strong reported growth, but the company’s future performance still depends on executing its orders and managing costs. A growing order book is valuable only when projects translate into revenue and earnings.

There is also a difference between a company reporting good results and its shares being attractively valued. The stock price reflects expectations about future performance as well as the financial results already announced. A rally alone cannot establish whether a stock is cheap or expensive.

For investors following L&T, the next questions are whether revenue growth can continue, whether project execution remains strong and how operating profitability develops. These factors will help determine whether the momentum reflected in the latest results can be sustained.

L&T’s Q2 results delivered strong profit growth and record quarterly order inflows. The next test is how effectively the company converts that business pipeline into profitable execution.
